Weefine Smart Housing Review 2024 – Can The WFH06 & WFH05 Beat Their Competition?

Today I have a bit of a different product review for you guys, as I am reviewing a dive phone case that seems to be just thrown on the market without real distribution outside of Asia and without any online reviews. The reason why I am still writing this article is that it pops up when you search for diving phone cases and here on underwater-phones.com I am trying to paint a complete picture of all the different choices available. So here we go!

The Chinese company Weefine – a manufacturer of equipment for underwater photography – has two models to chose from for divers who want to take their smartphone underwater. Join me as we explore the features of the Weefine Smart Housing WFH06 & WFH05 and find out if these dive phone cases can beat the competition.

Overview of the Weefine Smart Housing WFH06 & WFH05

The Weefine Smart Housing WFH06 & WFH05 are two dive phone cases from from Weefine, a manufacturer of underwater photography equipment from China. The two smartphone housings differ slightly as the WFH06 comes with a depth and temperature sensors as well as a GPS module to save the location of dive sites. The WFH05 looks almost identical but is lacking those sensors and therefore comes at a more affordable price. Both cases are using the often seen ‘housing + app’ approach that most manufacturers of underwater smartphone housings use.

To make this clear from the beginning: it does not appear that the Weefine Smart Housing product range is targeted towards costumers in the US and the EU, as it is either unavailable at the most popular retailers or those retailers are selling off their remaining stock at a discount.

Key Features and Benefits

Impressive Depth Rating

With a depth rating of 263 ft / 80 m, the Weefine cases are among the deepest smartphone housings on the market. This is also a decent margin to the 130 ft / 40m mark, which is for most divers the deepest they will ever take their smartphone.

Universal Compatibility

I love to see wide compatibility in dive phone cases and according to Weefine, the WFH06 and WFH05 fit most smartphone on the market. As long as your phone does not exceed the measurements of 165 x 85 x 9.5 mm on any side, it will fit inside the cases.

Limitations

Batteries Required

Two batteries in size AAA are required for the Weefine Smart Housing. You need to make sure to carry spare batteries if you are going on a dive holiday or otherwise, you will not be able to turn it on.

Connectivity Requirements

To set-up your housing for a dive, you need to install the Weefine app and connect your phone to the housing via bluetooth. This can potentially complicate the setup process.

Electronic Parts are Susceptible to Damage

Electronic components simply increase the likelihood of damage to any of the parts. I prefer seeing as little electronic components as possible, especially in a device that is intended to be used underwater.

Vacuum Pump Setup

Vacuum seals provide an additional layer of safety as they help to close the housing tightly, requiring real effort to open it again as long as the seal holds. That said, it also complicates the set-up process as divers will have to pump out the air with a vacuum hand pump before diving. This process has to be repeated every time the housing is opened and closed.

My Personal Experience with the Weefine WFH06

I have not tried the Weefine Smart Housings myself and can only tell you about the impression I get after an in-depth online research.

It does not appear as if these two smartphone housing models are targeted towards customers in the EU and US. In addition to this, the official website references 2023 at various points and lists the iPhone 14 as the latest model – which is simply outdated.

Besides an impressive depth rating of 263 ft / 80 m, I do not see any features that could give it a competitive edge over similar dive phone cases like the Kraken Sports KRH08 V2 or the OCEANIC+ Phone Case.

Other things I think are worth considering is that the Weefine Smart Housings have electronic components, need batteries and need an additional app installed on your phone. All of these things increase the likelihood of complications or failure, ranging from defect of electric parts to software issues due to lacking of app updates.

I usually include a summary of online reviews in my articles, but due to a lack of reviews on any platform, I simply could not conduct this research.

Compatibility and Accessories

The Weefine range of smartphone housings fits most smartphones according to the manufacturer. Unless your smartphone exceeds the measurements of 165 x 85 x 9.5 mm on any side, it is compatible with this dive case.

It is very nice to see the extensive range of accessories Weefine produces themselves. From torches to lenses and handles, they seem to cover every accessory you might need. The only thing that I was missing in my research are attachable red filters but the manufacturer hints that color correction features are available within their app.

Pricing and Availability

It was very hard to find out a RSP for the Weefine housings as most retailers either do not sell it (anymore) or sell of their remaining stock as part of bundle. The price range for the WFH06 appears to be between 400 – 500 USD and between 250 – 350 USD for the WFH05.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommended any retail outlet as only shops in Asia seem to have stock for these products. If you think I made a mistake here, drop me a quick message with the link to an outlet where the housing is still available for customers in the US or Europe.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

It appears that Weefine wanted to take its slice of the growing underwater smartphone housing market and has produced a decent series of dive cases – judging from the specifications. It also appears however, that there is a lack of pick-up from resellers and outdated marketing material on their website.

Overall, I see a dive phone case that is using the same approach as other manufacturers, without doing anything better or different. I will make sure to revisit this product range if any updates or new models are released. For the time being, I am pointing divers from the US and the EU to different alternatives like the DIVEVOLK SeaTouch 4 Max which I am currently using myself.
